Create Your Own Survival Kit Before Leaving Town

Driving hazards are an annual winter occurrence, and this year proves to be no different. El Nino’s battering the Pacific Coast. Northern territories find themselves enduring snowstorm after snowstorm. Heavy rains or sudden warming spells cause flooding in a moment’s notice.

Are you prepared for the unforeseen?

“The simplest things can be so important in an emergency or road breakdown in bad weather. A flashlight. An emergency space-blanket. Simple first-aid items,” said Jason Grubard, marketing manager for DC Safety.

Based in Long Island, NY, DC Safety dates back to 1975. It offers a variety of protection products–including customized safety kits for Canadian and US drivers.

“Any number of reputable suppliers have assembled good, affordable emergency kits that will give a driver peace of mind through the winter months.”

Grubard suggested motorists stock the following items for their winter driving emergency kit:

  1. First-aid kit
  2. Warm clothes (boots, gloves, socks and jacket)
  3. Sand or kitty litter (for traction)
  4. LED flashlight
  5. Extra batteries
  6. Snacks (energy bars, granola)
  7. Jumper cables
  8. Flares
  9. Reflective vest
  10. Tools such as shovel, ice-scraper and brush
  11. Tire chains
  12. Tow rope
  13. Cell phone charger
